The Hulk and Some Classic Art

For any illustrator who is a fan of children's books (at least the art part of them) there was an issue of The Incredible Hulk that came out at some point that took inspiration from a classic. "Where the Wild Things Are" is a favorite of almost everyone that I know, and if you haven't read it or had it read to you then you must grab a copy for yourself. Maurice Sendak was the author and illustrator for "Where the Wild Things Are" and was the inspiration for this issue's cover.

Kaare Andrews did a nice job of copying the style that Sendak used. On the cover is a grey Hulk and a green Hulk following a young Bruce Banner who is walking like a monster from the original "Wild Things". The Incredible Hulk was not always the green monster that most people remember - he started out as a grey creature who was a lot weaker than the current green verion. It wasn't until later that he became green and significantly larger, and that is the reason to have both versions of the creature on the cover. I need to go and find this issue and put it away for safe keeping...
